All that hypnosis is…is a heightened state of awareness that allows me to work with your subconscious to help you make positive changes in your life. People often refer to hypnosis as a “trance-like state,” where one can concentrate intensely on a specific thought, memory, feeling or sensation while blocking out distractions.
Feelings of Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a very natural state that we access every day. Examples: Road Hypnosis, Movie Hypnosis. Because we do access hypnosis in our everyday life, some people, depending on their suggestibility, may feel as if nothing has happened in the session while others notice various physiological changes in their body. Your breathing will get deeper and you may even feel warm, cool or a tingling sensation. You will have an overall feeling of well being at the end of the session and the process is usually very comfortable. All senses are heightened while under hypnosis.
False Reality
Society’s misconceptions about hypnosis derive from TV and many believe that when under hypnosis, you are under someone’s “spell.” While this hocus pocus may work for film, in reality hypnosis is something very different. So no I cannot make you “quack like a duck or bark like a dog.”
Deep Sleep
The word Hypnosis comes from Greek origin meaning a “sleep-like state,” however you will not be asleep, nor will you be unconscious. You will be aware of everything that is happening and what is being said the whole time, however, you will be so deeply relaxed that you may find yourself drifting into different levels of awareness. Most people do remember either everything or certain parts of the experience depending on how deep your mind goes. You will find that suggestions which have been given to you in hypnosis will resurface in your conscious, thinking mind after your session and these will be the thoughts that produce changes in your behavior or way of thinking and feeling. So when I suggest the words: “Deep Sleep” to you I mean the hypnotic state not actual deep sleep, because unlike in actual sleep, in hypnosis your conscious mind is awake and aware.
Dispelling Misconceptions
While hypnosis can be used for personal benefit, it cannot cause you to do anything against your free will or ethics. Unlike popular belief, hypnosis is not a control state; it is an agreeable state for the mind and body to shift its perspective in life. Therefore, you will not start barking like a dog or break out singing opera. If you were given suggestions that you don’t morally agree with, you would come out of hypnosis and your mind will mentally block those suggestions. This is because you are still consciously aware of the process. At the same time, you also cannot be hypnotized to do something that you really don’t want to do for yourself. For example, if your partner wants you to quit smoking but you are not ready to, your mind will block the suggestion with your own resistance and you will remain a smoker after the session. You must want the change for the change to happen.
How Can Hypnosis Help Me
Hypnosis is basically the shortcut to helping change certain ingrained behaviors, habits, fears or self-defeating talks. Combined with positive suggestions it can help change someone’s life. Hypnosis is a tool used to bypass the critical analysis of your mind so that the suggestions can be accepted and then incorporated into a new “automatic” behavior. Therapeutic hypnosis is used to improve your health and well-being.
